Calculators for a single platform

The table above prices five platforms on the same sale, which means it can only model rules that all five share. Two platforms charge on rules that have no equivalent anywhere else, so they get their own page rather than a column here.

Lemon Squeezy fee calculator: adds the two marketing surcharges from the Lemon Squeezy fee docs that the comparison above leaves out, 5 percent on payments recovered through abandoned cart emails and 3 percent on affiliate referrals, and prints what the merchant of record premium costs against bare card processing.
Ko-fi fee calculator: prices tips separately from shop sales, which the comparison above cannot do because it models the Ko-fi Shop only. Tips are 5 percent while Contributor status is on, which Ko-fi enables for every new account, and 0 percent once you turn it off. It also solves the Ko-fi Gold break-even for your own income.

Questions creators actually ask

Which platform has the lowest fees for a digital product?: It depends on your price and your volume, which is why this is a creator platform fee calculator rather than a league table. Two forces pull in opposite directions. Fixed per-sale fees, such as Gumroad's 50 cents and Lemon Squeezy's 50 cents, hurt cheap products the most, because 50 cents on a 3 dollar sale is 17 percent. Monthly plan fees, such as Payhip Plus at 29 dollars and Ko-fi Gold at 12 dollars, only pay for themselves above a certain revenue, because the saved percentage has to cover the subscription. Put your real price and your real volume in the form and the table settles it.
Do Gumroad and Lemon Squeezy fees include credit card processing?: Yes. Both are the merchant of record, so their published rate is the whole cut. Lemon Squeezy states this directly: the platform fee covers card transaction fees, currency conversion and taxes. Ko-fi, Payhip and itch.io work the other way round. The money moves through your own PayPal or Stripe account, and the processor bills you separately, which is why those three rows carry a card processing column and the other two show a dash.
Why does only the itch.io row show US withholding?: Because itch.io is the only one of the five that publishes a withholding rate for creators. Its docs say funds sent to foreign entities are subject to withholding, that the default rate is 30 percent, and that a reduced treaty rate is available if you operate in a treaty country and supply a tax identification number. The other four publish no creator withholding rate, so this page leaves those cells empty rather than inventing a number. Do not read an empty cell as proof that no tax is due, only that the platform has not published a rate.

gumroad.com/pricing Gumroad: 10 percent plus 50 cents per transaction on direct sales, 30 percent on Discover marketplace sales, no monthly fee. No separate payout fee is published.
ko-fi.com/pricing Ko-fi: Standard is 0 dollars a month plus a 5 percent service fee on Sell Products, Memberships and Commissions. Gold is 12 dollars a month with a 0 percent service fee. Standard payment processor fees also apply, and the page states there are no payout fees.
help.payhip.com/article/102-billing-and-upgrading Payhip: free plan 5 percent, Plus 29 dollars a month at 2 percent, Pro 99 dollars a month at 0 percent. PayPal and Stripe still charge their own transaction fees.
docs.lemonsqueezy.com/help/getting-started/fees Lemon Squeezy: 5 percent plus 50 cents platform fee, which covers card processing, currency conversion and taxes. Additional 1.5 percent for international transactions, 1.5 percent for PayPal transactions and 0.5 percent for subscription payments. Payout fees: Stripe is free for US bank accounts and 1 percent per payout outside the US, PayPal is a flat 50 cents per payout in the US and 3 percent capped at 30 dollars per payout outside the US.
lemonsqueezy.com/pricing Lemon Squeezy: 5 percent plus 50 cents headline rate, and payouts are processed twice a month, which is where this page's payout count comes from.
itch.io/docs/creators/payments itch.io: Open Revenue Sharing lets you set 0 to 100 percent, and the default is 10 percent. Payment processor fees are generally 30 cents plus 2.9 percent and are passed to you. Withholding on payouts defaults to 30 percent, reduced by treaty if you supply a tax identification number. A one-time 3 dollar tax identity verification fee applies, which this page does not include because it is charged once per account rather than per sale.
stripe.com/pricing Stripe standard pricing: 2.9 percent plus 30 cents per successful transaction for domestic cards. This is the default card processing preset when you pick Stripe or a bank transfer.
paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/merchant-fees PayPal US merchant fees: PayPal Checkout is 3.49 percent plus a fixed fee, and the fixed fee for commercial transactions received in US dollars is 49 cents. This is the default card processing preset when you pick PayPal.
